Non-fiction books

My most recent non-fiction book was published in 2025 by WSOY. Menologeja. Tutkimusmatka esivaihdevuosiin (The Menologues: A journey into menopause) tells what you need to know about perimenopause, why the subject is a societal one, and why there has been so little talk about it.

Puhelimen pomoksi. Ota digimaailma haltuun. A non-fiction book for children and young people about the addictive design of digital devices, published in autumn 2022 by Tammi. It was selected for the Finnish Book Art Committee’s Most Beautiful Books of 2022 collection.

Aikakone. Ihmissuhteet digimaailmassa. A non-fiction book about the impact of digital devices on relationships and on digital parenting, published in spring 2022 by Kustantamo S&S.

Lapset vai työ. Uskallanko perustaa perheen? A non-fiction book about starting a family in the framework of new working life, published in 2018 by Minerva.

Podcasts and audio

Since autumn 2024, I have been a member of the panel Perjantaistudio, a cultural affairs radio program on the Finnish Broadcasting Company. I regularly join live studio discussions on culture and current topics.

Menologeja: A Journey into Menopause. This podcast was shortlisted at the International Women’s Podcast Awards in the category Moment of Podcasting Panache in a Language Other Than English.

Written about Menologeja: Helsingin Sanomat (6 November 2023) described the podcast as an excellent and informative expedition into menopause, in which the journalist rolls out for her listeners both fascinating historical anecdotes and fresh research findings, and where the narration relies successfully on her own voice.

Suojeltu! – Conserved. 50 Years of Environmental Research. Published by Helsingin Sanomat, this anniversary podcast for the Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation tells six stories about the history of Finnish environmental research and conservation from the 1970s to the present, and into the future.

Radio Y – Aino-Mari Tuuri. Broadcast on Yle Puhe in 2019 (rebroadcast in 2020), this podcast series explores the millennial generation (born 1980–1995) through ten perspectives and episodes, featuring voices exclusively from within the generation itself.

Image 9/2024 (the last print issue!): The boy and the pearl earring. When Aino-Mari Tuuri started watching floorball on television, her attention was drawn to Toni Lötjönen. This was no surprise, as Lötjönen stands out in a sport not typically known for its visual flair.

Image 4/2024: Päättyviä lankoja / Fading Threads. When journalist Aino-Mari Tuuri became intrigued by a name on the label of a second-hand knitwear piece, it led to a story that ultimately became an account of the Finnish clothing industry — and of one particular Finnish city.

This article received an honorable mention in the Feature Story of the Year 2024 category at the Edit Awards, and is available in full in Finnish.

Eeva magazine 5/2024: Siblings — an interview with Samppa Lappalainen and Joanna Haartti.
